Moral Formation of Conscience for Novices of the Scmm Congregation Based on the Teachings of the Catholic Church and Moral Philosophy
Main Article Content
Abstract
The formation of conscience is an important element in the formation of religious candidates because it is related to the ability to assess actions, cultivate motivation, and make responsible decisions. This Community Service activity was carried out for the novices of the SCMM Congregation in the Community of St. Maria Karangsari Pematangsiantar to strengthen their understanding of morality and conscience based on the teachings of the Catholic Church and moral philosophy. The program uses a participatory-reflective approach through interactive lectures, group discussions, Scripture reflection, moral case analysis, experience sharing, and mentoring. Evaluation was carried out through initial mapping, participation observations, reflection sheets, case study rubrics, and participant feedback. The results of the activity showed that participants were increasingly able to distinguish moral judgment from emotional reactions, identify factors that influence decisions, and connect moral principles with community life, digital media use, interpersonal relationships, and service. The activity also encourages openness in dialogue, willingness to accept corrections, and preparation of personal coaching commitments. This program emphasizes that conscience coaching becomes more effective when knowledge, experience, prayer, critical reflection, and mentoring are integrated in an ongoing manner.
